Playform artists Domenico Barra and AICAN, developed by Playform founder Ahmed Elgammal, were featured as a part of World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) virtual gallery exhibition titled “WIPO: AI and IP, a Virtual Experience.”

February 10, 2021

The exhibition explores the relationship between budding artificial intelligence technologies and intellectual property. “Until now, creation and innovation were solely human activities and are part of what defines the human species,” the exhibition wall text reads. “AI is evolving fast and used in creating art and music and solving technical problems. Therefore, the growth of AI is raising fundamental questions of the exhibition IP system. Do AI-generated works and inventions fit into the current IP system? How should the value of human creation and innovation, and the value of AI creation and innovation be balanced?

These are questions that Playform seeks to explore. Platform was built for artists to create without limitations or coding experience. While the AI “assistant” helps to aid in the artistic process, Playform does not exist without its artists and users.

Playform artists AICAN and Domenico Barra explore these concepts of authorship, technology and AI collaboration through this exhibition.

The exhibition has been extended to March 18, 2021, you can view the virtual experience here.
